After over a month in theaters, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has passed another major worldwide box office mark over the weekend.
The animated sequel has officially earned over $500 million at the global box office, reaching $501.9 million after being open in theaters everywhere for six weeks, with $152.9 million being earned domestically.
While less than How to Train Your Dragon 2's $621.5 million total box office in 2014, it has outperformed the original film in the trilogy, which earned $495.8 million upon its debut in 2010.
Produced on a reported production budget on $129 million, the animated sequel is behind only Captain Marvel as the highest earning Hollywood film of the year so far. However, with Shazam! opening this week and Avengers: Endgame opening at the end of April, this position is estimated to be overtaken soon.
Written and directed by Dean DeBlois, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World stars the voices of Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Kit Harington, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T. J. Miller, Kristen Wiig and F. Murray Abraham.
