WARNING: The following contains spoilers for I Am Not Okay With This Season 1, streaming now on Netflix.

Netflix's adaptation of Charles Forsman's graphic novel, I Am Not Okay With This, wades deep into the rudderless Sydney (Sophia Lillis), a Pennsylvania high-schooler, as she struggles with her sexuality and a dark, dangerous secret. She harbors super-powers, which include telekinesis and the ability to give people nosebleeds, but her emotions threaten to overwhelm her as the object of her affection, Dina, doesn't reciprocate her feelings.

Eventually, as with most '80s-influenced stories, the season finale ends at the homecoming dance, which channels teenage ennui as Syd ends up brutally killing a bully named Brad -- coincidentally Dina's bitter ex -- who threatened to out her. However, seeing as Syd made his head explode with her mind, no one knows she's to blame. As everyone scatters amid the chaos, the young superhuman meets a mysterious stranger long teased throughout the first season, which all serve to set up a very intriguing Season 2.

THE HOODED MAN

Syd comes face-to-hooded-face with the shadow figure stalking her in the final shot of Season 1 -- the same figure who actually jolted her into destroying the school library early on. It was ambiguous if this was a figment of her imagination, but as it confronts her in a wooden tower in the forests, she asks if she should be afraid. "They should be afraid," the figure responds. "Let's begin." So seeing as she doesn't recognize the person, it doesn't seem to be her dead dad, but what's ominous is this character may well be the Professor Xavier to her Jean Grey.

Stanley discussed the mentor figure with her earlier this season as they spoke of comic tropes and he even volunteered to be her teacher, but Season 2 is sure to dive into this person who clearly has a grudge against mankind. It appears he can track people with powers, so we may see him helping her unlock new powers and introducing her to similar gifted individuals, shaping a more teen-angsty version of X-Men. This person might be hatching a nefarious scheme and Syd could well be his ultimate weapon of mass destruction, an outsider easily corrupted for war.

THE HUNT FOR THE KILLER

When Syd blew Brad's head up, everyone ran out of the auditorium. Stan saw her diary on the ground being kicked about and realizes Brad had it, so if it falls into the wrong hands, she could be outed again. As it stands, only Stan and Syd know about her abilities, but there's also the chance Dina might put clues together as she knows Syd wanted the library-trashing covered up, ergo why they stole the camera footage. She also witnessed Brad's nosebleeds with Syd around, and despite having feelings for Syd, she might look at her differently if she thinks she's a killer.

The police also arrived on the scene as students fled, so they'll be investigating along with the teachers. The principal knows something fishy is up with Syd, Dina, Stan and Bradley after they all got detention together, so signs do point in the girl's direction. Fans are also positing that Brad secretly told his bestie, Ricky, about Syd, which could tie into the book where he too was a victim of Syd's telekinesis just before she made Brad bleed to death when they bullied her. So while we may think Syd's in the clear, breadcrumbs are around which could undo attempted cover-ups.

SYD'S CRAZY PERSONAL LIFE

Season 2 will almost certainly be looking at Syd's love life as well, with Stan and Dina in a possible love triangle once Syd's cleared of Brad's murder. Both have feelings for her and this would add more drama surrounding Syd's bisexuality. What's intriguing is her brother, Liam, and her mom, could also find out about her powers, understanding at long last why she's been such a pain. She might even confess what she did to Brad to her mother, just like in the source material, to enrich their bond and paint a stronger picture of family.

She could also face inner-conflict with the ghost of her dead dad. At first, it seemed he killed himself because of PTSD from being a soldier, but Syd thinks he might have had powers too. It's never confirmed here, but the comic did indicate he spoke to her through telepathy, goading her to kill him to release him from his pain. Other theorists believe maybe he used his mental powers, once he really did have them in the show, to have Syd aid in his suicide by hanging. They think that's why she feels guilt and burdened by his death, as she has repressed memories. Exploring this could be a huge reveal in Season 2 as to why she has this sense of responsibility over his death.

Streaming now on Netflix, I Am Not Okay With This stars Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Sofia Bryant, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong and Richard Ellis.
