Jonah Hex fell 72% in its second weekend of release, pulling its total box office take to $9.2 million dollars – the second most unsuccessful movie of the year so far by a long way, and that’s not even taking its $35-50 million budget into account. But how badly does it hurt Warner Bros.?
The Wrap points out that only MacGruber has out-underperformed Hex at the box office this year in wide release, with anonymous source from a rival studio suggesting that, once all costs have been factored in, Hex‘s failure will cost the studio “what they typically make on a Harry Potter film” – which makes this year’s release of the first half of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows either lucky or a lost opportunity, depending on your point of view. This does raise the possibility, of course, that Megan Fox is the work of Voldemort… which answers a lot of questions, really.
