WARNING: The following contains spoilers for "Synergy," the Season 3 finale of NBC's Good Girls.
Good Girls' Season 3 ends on an abrupt note due to COVID-19 shortening the season by five episodes. But still, a lot happened that changed the business for Beth (Christina Hendricks), Annie (Mae Whitman) and Ruby (Retta) moving forward.
In "Synergy," it gets a bit stickier because they're now printing and washing all of Rio's money, giving them way more responsibility than their initial counterfeiting scheme. However, there are still many lingering threads that set up a fourth season outside of this new business deal.
THE SPA BUSINESS
Beth wanted to buy the spa business her husband Dean worked at so she could wash her own money. However, she's forced into using Rio as a financial backer and he makes it clear if they don't pull double-duty for him, it'll be their heads. Beth wants this part of the empire for herself, though, so fans can expect them to clash a lot next season. It has to be either counterfeiting or washing, not both, so it's unclear how long the current arrangement will last.
What complicates things is Beth has seemingly kicked Dean out the deal as she suspects he slept with his boss and lied about it. This could dredge up old wounds about his past infidelities we thought they got over and Dean might even team up with his ex-boss to get the business back if he's truly done with Beth. It's also a massive bonus if he can stick it to Rio this way because he thinks the criminal's sleeping with Beth again.
THE SHADY HITMAN
Season 4 wil focus on Beth's hitman, Fitzpatrick, finishing up the job he was hired for: killing Rio. While the last episode had him and Beth falling out over high costs, they reconciled and got the job back on the schedule. However, the finale finds Beth pissed again as he's racking up incidentals they didn't account for at hotels and cafes and such.
But they have to tread lightly because he has tons of evidence on their criminal and personal lives that could crush the ladies. In addition, Fitzpatrick has made it clear he has no problem killing the women for free and just washing his hands of the case. Rio suspects Beth's using her cut for something shady too so he might have been tailing her, setting his men up to go hunting the hitman in return.
PARADISE SHATTERED
It's clear Beth and Dean are on shaky ground but so are Stan and Ruby. They reconciled a bit but hints have been dropped Stan might want to use the ladies for more dangerous, profitable heists after he saw how they robbed his strip club. He's taken interest in how they can print fake cash to remain undetectable as well, and who knows, maybe Ruby might want to cut him in so they can stay on the same page for their kids.
Additionally, Annie has to fix things with her son, Ben, who's tired of being a parent to her. She's currently chasing her therapist, Josh, and has eyes on breaking up his engagement. She's also still obsessed with random flings and her ex-husband Gregg (Ben's father). With her personal life in tatters, Beth knows Annie could become a liability and might be tempted to kick her out, leading to some heated sibling rivalry. Annie's already jealous Beth's in charge so there's a lot of tension to explore in Season 4.
BABY BOOMER
Boomer was last seen this season being taken prisoner by Rio, so Season 4 will surely layout what his role is with the criminal. The ladies thought Rio was going to kill Boomer because he knew about all their deals and could be a potential rat. However, Boomer could be leverage as he has extra insight into Beth's posse Rio never got.
Boomer's also a smart businessman so Rio might even be using him as an ally. If he's insurance, Rio might as well get some benefits from their relationship. The ladies don't want to see Boomer dead but if he proves to be a thorn in their side, they might have no choice but to also get Fitzpatrick to try to take him out. He tried to rape Annie already so she especially has revenge on her mind.
THE WRATH OF PHOEBE
Phoebe's the new FBI agent on the block hunting the women. She already stole Ruby's phone in the finale, pretending to be a customer, and after Ruby stupidly told her how to spot fake money, Phoebe has her mark. She knows Ruby's using nail polish to make fake cash and from all her pictures, Phoebe can tell something's up with Beth and Annie as they all spend way too much time together.
Season 3 ends with her meeting the ladies in the park, asking what they were celebrating. And while they couldn't answer, Phoebe suspects they pulled another job. The series' showrunners did reveal that Phoebe, who was an outcast in high school, will be forming a bond with Beth, the former gorgeous high school queen, leading to a highly-charged and emotional rivalry between two total opposites.
Good Girls stars Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, Retta, Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson and Manny Montana.
