Housing Complex C is a Japanese anime that premiered in October 2022 on Adult Swim's Toonami. Though the anime is only four episodes long, it is jam-packed with jump scares and creepy themes that keep the audience at the edge of their seat.

Housing Complex C follows the story of Kimi Shirokada, a nine-year-old girl who lives at a housing complex in Kurosaki. She befriends Yuri Koshide, who moves into the village along with Middle Eastern fishing interns. Soon, a series of strange events happen, from dead animals and missing tenants to moss growing inside the apartments. As things take a more drastic turn, several characters step up to show their bravery in the face of adversity.

10 Toshi Wada

Strict Complex Manager

Housing Complex C has Wada hating Rubel and Kan.

Toshi Wada is an older woman who serves as Housing Complex C's manager. While friendly to Japanese residents, she is prejudiced toward the Middle Eastern tenants.

When Toshi first meets the interns, she shows fear due to them being foreigners. When she sees dirty clothes thrown around the washing area and hears the interns doing their religious prayers, she berates them. However, she appears to have a change of heart. She visits the interns and gifts them curry. She reveals she did research to make sure the food suits their religious diet and that she used a new chopping board and knife to avoid contact with ingredients they are not allowed to eat.

9 Keiko Koshide

Peacekeeper Of Housing Complex C

Keiko Koshide is the mother of Yuri Koshide. She moves into the housing complex with her family and the Middle Eastern interns. As her husband, Seichi Koshide, is busy at work, she manages the interns at Housing Complex C.

Despite the tension between the long-term tenants and the interns, Keiko tries to be a peacekeeper. She asks Koba, Taka, and Yoshiiken to ignore the rumors about the Middle Easter interns. As tensions peak, she keeps track of the daily reports from the watch captains, albeit to the detriment of her health.

8 Kentaro Yoshiiken

The Soldier Of The Complex

Kentaro Yoshiiken is one of the Japanese tenants in Housing Complex C. He is good friends with Kisou Kobayashi and Takashi Takamura. As a long-term resident at the complex, he is dedicated to the safety of the inhabitants.

After discovering dead fish at the park of the complex, Yoshiiken offers to patrol the complex at night to uncover who is planting dead animals at the complex. As a former soldier who fought at the front lines of the Southern Operation, he has a strong sense of justice and dignity, and he maintains it as he continues his patrol duties. Sadly, it is during the patrol duties that he meets his demise.

7 Seichi Koshide

Courageous Father

Seichi Koshide is the husband of Keiko Koshide and the father of Yuri Koshide. He moves into Housing Complex C with his family and the interns. He works as a supervisor and consultant for foreign workers in Kurosaki.

While Seichi is not seen as much as the other characters in Housing Complex C, he shows his bravery in Episode 1. During the first scene, he is seen knocking out a man chasing after Kimi and Yuri, demanding that he not lay a finger on his daughter. During the shaved ice event, he urges the residents to stop fighting and act like a good-natured community, showing his aversion to discrimination.

6 Kisou Kobayashi

Loyal & Brave Resident

Kisou Kobayashi is one of the tenants in Housing Complex C. He is friends with Takashi Takamura and Kentaro Yoshiiken. Like the other people living in the complex, he has shown his adoration for Kimi and wants to keep her safe.

Koba is one of the few tenants who tries to search for the ones who disappeared and were replaced by moss. When Hideo and Momo disappeared, he searched everywhere, including their apartments and Kurosaki's forests. When Yoshiiken fails to show up at the snow cone party, he rushes to his room and breaks in, only to find moss. Though distraught over his friend's disappearance, he offers to handle search efforts while Takashi is preoccupied with his investigation.

5 Rubel Hossen

Representative Of The Interns

Rubel Hossen is one of the interns that moves into Housing Complex C. As he is the most fluent in Japanese, he acts as their representative.

Rubel starts the anime considerate of the cultural difference between the interns and the Japanese residents. However, as the interns continue to face discrimination, he tries to protect his community. As the inhabitants blame the interns for the disaster in the shaved ice party, Rubel defends the interns from the accusations, saying that drinking blood goes against their religion. Rubel also chastises the other interns after they claim Kan is guilty of bringing dead animals to the complex. Until he leaves the complex, Rubel does his best to protect the other interns.

4 Yuri Koshide

Kimi's Big Sister

Yuri Koshide is a soft-spoken 10-year-old girl who moves into the housing complex with her family and the Middle Eastern interns. Upon arriving at the compound, she befriends Kimi.

Though initially afraid of exploring the underground basement of the complex, Yuri decides to act as a big sister to Kimi. By Episode 3, she has shown her resolve in finding out the truth behind who put the severed dog head in the syrup of the shaved ice party. Yuri even follows Kimi to the basement and into the secret room when Kimi tries to find Takashi Takamura.

3 Takashi Takamura

Father Of The Complex

Takashi Takamura is a resident of the complex. He acts as a leader between him, Kisou Kobayashi, and Kentaro Yoshiiken. He functions as a father figure for Kimi, taking care of her and ensuring she has a good time at the complex.

Takashi Takamura is lawful good. He does not discriminate against the interns and fights for equality. As things worsen, Takashi dives into his research concerning the ancient cave and mysterious stone. When he discovers that the trails to the Torii lead to the black gate, he realizes that the sacred site is at Housing Complex C. Despite his fear, Takashi pursues his hypothesis and discovers a hidden room in the basement.

2 Kanchan Mia

Silent But Mighty

Kanchan, who goes by Kan, is one of the interns who moves into the complex. Though brutish, he has shown he cares for Kimi and the other tenants of the complex.

Kanchan has gone to great lengths to protect Kimi. He takes the dead animals from her doorstep and buries them in the forest. When tensions peak between the tenants and the interns, he accepts the beating of three men after being caught with dead chickens. He begs to be blamed for the hostility between the two sides so that the interns can keep their jobs. He also follows Kimi and Yuri to the basement in Episode 3, keeping watch as the children explore the hidden room.

1 Kimi Shirokado

Bravery With A Smile

Kimi Shirokada is the central character of Housing Complex C. She is a happy-go-lucky girl who lives in the complex. Like all the other characters, she wants to discover the mystery of the complex. However, it appears she knows more than what she lets on.

Throughout Housing Complex C, viewers see Kimi defend the interns as they face discrimination from the tenants. During the shaved ice party, she screams at everyone to stop fighting. She shields Kan when he gets beaten by the neighbors. Kimi is okay with getting her hands dirty, going through the hidden door in Episode 3 to discover Takashi's whereabouts. Though she often faces the unknown, Kimi bravely tries to uncover the source of the strange occurrences.
