WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for House of X #1 by Jonathan Hickman, Pepe Larraz, Marte Gracia and VC's Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

Since its first appearance in 1988, Damage Control has been the cleanup crew for the Marvel Universe, dealing with the debris of constant superhuman battles. The construction company has always seemingly been a benevolent presence. However, House of X #1 reveals that, after years of sifting through rubbish, Damage Control might have the technology to take on anyone, including the X-Men.

Damage Control is Armed to the Teeth

A file in House of X #1 reveals Damage Control kept salvageable tech and weaponry from its various clean-up jobs over the years. The technology is described as having belonged to "missing, incapacitated, or deceased individuals." Some of this almost certainly belongs to fallen heroes and villains, but the document highlights items belonging to Tony Stark/Iron Man and Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, as they were each other's beneficiaries at a time that both were out of commission. This led to some pretty dangerous items ending up in limbo at the "Damage Control Contested Storage Facility." There's no doubt these items and schematics are dangerous, as Richards and Stark are two of the smartest people in the Marvel Universe. Items included in Damage Control's collection are the Antiproton Sling, Sol's Hammer and a variety of different Iron Man armors.

At this time, there's no indication Damage Control is doing anything but storing the technology. However, there's still something sinister about a humble construction and repair company having such a massive stockpile of deadly weapons. It's also not totally clear whether Reed and Tony know Damage Control has so many powerful weapons. However, some items are described as posing an "existential threat to the United States," which makes clear just how dangerous the company's stockpile is.

The Mutant Agenda

Damage Control plays a role in House of X beyond just this note. Instead, part of the book focuses on Mystique, Sabretooth and Toad robbing the company, stealing some undisclosed data in the process. Just what they might be planning to do with that technology, especially since it's potentially so dangerous. Mutants, who are set to become the dominant species in Marvel, seem poised to again come to blows with a world that hates and fears them, meaning Damage Control could end up being at the forefront of the confrontation. This would line up with Joe Quesada's statements about House of X changing everything in the Marvel Universe

Even if Damage Control doesn't have any malicious intentions for the dangerous technology that it's stockpiled, House of X shows the company's storage facility is definitely penetrable, meaning some very dangerous weapons could get out into the world very easily. Damage Control might step up its security protocols following the incursion by the mutants, but there's always the potential HYDRA or another sinister organization might infiltrate the company and turn that technology against the forces of good. Considering all of the weapons and bleeding-edge tech at its disposal, Damage Control might made itself the most dangerous organization in the Marvel Universe without even having tried.

House of X #1 is on sale now, followed by Powers of X #1 on July 31.
