Marvel Comics has released the upcoming covers for September's House of X #4 and #5. The series by writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Pepe Larraz shows the X-Men in an intense battle with military soldiers on Larraz's House of X #4 cover, with classic X-Men villain Apocalypse featured on the cover of issue #5.
House of X #4 cover shows Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Nightcrawler, Wolverine and M. Joining them is a mutant with a yellow/gold hooded costume, who could be a new character or a familiar X-Man with an updated look.
As for Apocalypse, the villain played a role in Uncanny X-Men's "Disassembled" weekly story arc, and makes his first appearance in Hickman's upcoming X-Men run. Apocalypse is walking through a swampy marsh as the sun sets behind him, which could play into his "Survival of the fittest" mantra.
Hickman has shared very few details regarding House of X and Powers of X, but we do know both series deal with the X-Men's history and mutants' history in the Marvel Universe. "One, House of X, is a story about a pivotal month in the history of the X-Men where everything changes for mutants on Earth. And the other, Powers of X, is a story about the history of mutants in the Marvel Universe," Hickman said in an interview. "It works as a series of reveals and revelations where each issue of HOX that follows POX -- and vice versa -- makes you reinterpret the issue you had previously read."
Marvel previously teased the book as having "the most important scene in the history of the X-Men."
House of X #1 and Powers of X #1 go on sale in July from Marvel Comics.
