House of the Dragon has quickly proven itself one of 2022's best shows around, and with the first season's conclusion, theories are already racing regarding what new characters may appear in the next season. George R.R. Martin writes stories filled with rich, diverse characters, where even the most minor character has a story to tell.

As a result, there is no end to the lists of characters who have yet to appear in the Dance of Dragons the show is chronicling. Some of them have been fairly minor omissions, like the removal of the court jester Mushroom. Others however, like the missing Targaryen son, speak volumes as to what may come for future stories.

10 Daeron Targaryen Is The Missing Son

Older Aemond Targaryen with his mother, Alicent Hightower, in House of the Dragon.

TV viewers are hard-pressed to know even the names of all the existing Targaryens in the show, but book readers will be the first to mention that Alicent's family is as yet incomplete. Aemond and Aegon have a brother, Daeron. In the story, he has been sent to the citadel in Oldtown to study as a Maester, but with the Dance he returns to his family on top of his dragon Tessarion.

With the conclusion of season one, the Dance is in full swing and every dragon rider will be needed. Daeron is likely to be the first major character to return, seeking to support his older brother on the throne.

9 Ser Luthor Largent Would Add Much To The Gold Cloaks

The Gold Cloaks in House of the Dragon.

Ser Luthor Largent is the appointed commander of the Gold Cloaks, Daemon's newly created city guard of King's Landing. Viewers are introduced to their brutal ways and their absolute loyalty to Daemon in season one, and now that an enemy to Daemon rules the city the Gold Cloaks protect, things are bound to get very tense.

Ser Luthor is a vital part of this, as Daemon's selected commander is likely to have a great degree of loyalty towards him. Time will tell if they will prove loyal to the city they protect, or the man who gave them their Gold Cloaks.

8 Ser Gwayne Hightower Is A Vital Part Of The Plot

Ser Gwayne Hightower is the son of Hand of the King Otto Hightower, and is likely to have a large part to play in the ongoing politics of King's Landing. With the beginning of the Dance, Otto makes his son second-in-command of the City Watch after Ser Luthor, adding a loyalist counterweight to the suspected turn cloaks.

If the Gold Cloaks have a part to play in House of the Dragon's telling of the dance, Gwayne will be a vital part of establishing the green-black rivalry within the city guard and sparking possible conflict.

7 Admiral Sharako Lohar Could Be A Worthy Rival To Corlys

Corlys Velaryon seated in House of the Dragon

Corlys Velaryon is a legendary sea captain, and the Velaryon fleet coming to the side of the Blacks at the end of season one is arguably their biggest boon. In the retellings of the Dance, the Velaryon fleet blockades Kings Landing for much of the war, and even sees one of the biggest naval battles in the history of Westeros, as the Greens seek an answer to Corlys and his fleet.

That answer arrives in the shape of Admiral Sharako Lohar. The Triarchy commander is a sure enemy to Corlys, and could prove to be the counter-balance the Greens need against him.

6 The Shepherd Is A Voice Of The Seven

The High Sparrow in King's Landing in Game of Thrones

Throughout season one, it's established that Alicent moves away from the traditional trappings of Targaryen rule, and begins to add symbols of the Faith throughout King's Landing and the Red Keep. This is because without the traditional power of dragons, she comes to rely on the strength of the Faith to give her rule legitimacy.

A character reminiscent to the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones soon rises, a religious figure who rallies the masses to a greater cause. The Faith has always had a large part to play in the successions of kings, especially as time went on. An early archetype to the religious fanaticism that would come later would be incredibly fun to watch.

5 Alys Rivers Is A Witch And Bastard Strong

Alys Rivers claims to be many things, among them a wood witch and a bastard daughter of the late Lyonel Strong. Interestingly, as the Dance went on Alys would find herself paramour to a most unlikely person; Aemond Targaryen. The Strong-hating brother of the Green King Aegon seems an unlikely match for Alys, but the two go on to be an incredibly powerful pair.

As his hatred for the Strongs has been heavily emphasized thus far, seeing Aemond find himself in bed with the daughter of one would be an interesting turn. Alys also has a very interesting tale after the Dance, styling herself a Witch Queen.

4 Cregan Stark Is Vital To The Blacks

At the end of season one, Rhaenyra's older son, Jacaerys, flies north to try and gain the support of the Starks in the oncoming war. In the telling of the Dance, Cregan has a vital part to play, and is arguably one of the time periods most important characters. The North is incredibly powerful, with vast land and hardy, tough men filling their armies.

Cregan himself is a legendary figure, a Stark comparable to the likes of Ned and Robb. His armies will prove vital in the conflict, but he himself will too, as his decisions have far-reaching consequences on Westeros.

3 The Tullys Are Key Players For The Greens

Fans will remember the Tullys from Game of Thrones with mild interest, as the family proved to be rather lackluster in the conflicts of the Five Kings. The same cannot be said for their time during the Dance, however. The Tullys find themselves at the heart of the war, with the Riverlands constantly engulfed by conflict.

Ruling the central lands of Westeros and the wealth that comes with them means that whoever the Tullys choose in the Dance will gain a great boon, and much power in the war to come.

2 Nettles And The Dragonseeds Will Have A Big Part To Play

Throughout season one, Daemon can be seen paying great respect to his Valyrian heritage. He studies ancient texts, gathers dragon eggs, and raises Dragonstone's dragons with a wary and caring eye. When the Dance breaks out, the dragons its named for will be its most vital element.

At the start of the Dance, the Blacks find themselves with many dragons but few riders. The answer to this are Targaryen bastards, or Seeds of the Dragon as they become known. Nettles and several other bastards rise to great prominence during the conflict, as their new positions of great esteem as dragon riders makes them some of the most important characters of the Dance.

1 The Dragons The War Is Named After

Vermithor the Bronze Fury in House of the Dragon

One thing that became immediately clear throughout season one of House of the Dragon is that the dragons are a vital part of the story. Whilst they looked good in Game of Thrones, the glorious mounts of House Targaryen have been rendered in a whole new level of splendor with House of the Dragon.

As the Dance of the Dragons escalates, the dragons the war is named after are sure to gain more prominence on screen. The Dance sees the deaths of nearly all dragons, and as such they deserve to be rendered in all their glory. Each one has names, deeds and a story, same as any other character in House of the Dragon, and deserve recognition for it.
