While only appearing once, Hoth is the staging ground for one of the most iconic battles in Star Wars. The desolate ice planet made for a perfect hideout for the Rebellion, yet even that wasn't enough to keep away from Darth Vader's tireless pursuit. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back opened with a devastating fight on Hoth that forced the Rebel Alliance to flee from Echo Base. But the planet's fate after that battle has largely been a mystery.

Despite the Rebel victory against the first Death Star, they were still a small force against the gigantic Imperial Army. The book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know explained that the Rebels had set up on Hoth only a month before The Empire Strikes Back. With their location so quickly discovered, there was no time to pack up equipment, and the main priority was to pile people onto transport ships. The Rebels barely managed to escape in time, as it took them eleven hours to get everyone off the planet.

But the sudden escape meant that Echo Base was still intact, with much of its contents left behind, including their massive Ion Canon. With the battle coming to a close, and the Empire leaving all the scraps, Hoth became a perfect location for scavengers. It didn't take long for the planet to get picked apart, as camps were set up along the base to help tear apart the fallen AT-ATs.

While Hoth hasn't been seen again in any movie or TV show, the planet reappeared in the mobile game Star Wars: Uprising. It was an unsuccessful app that went online in 2015 and only survived for one year before the game servers got taken down. Yet, despite its poor launch and reception, the story is still said to be in canon, making it the only piece of Star Wars media to show Hoth post-The Empire Strikes Back.

The game takes place shortly after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and shows that Imperial Governor Ubrik Adelhard locked down the Anoat Sector of the galaxy. This portion was home to numerous species and worlds, including the ice planet of Hoth. Within the locked-down sector, the Governor pretended nothing was wrong and told the inhabitants that the Emperor was still alive and well. But as the Empire began to crumble apart, the Rebellion started liberating the planets under Imperial occupation.

And despite no one living on Hoth, it became home for yet another battle. With the Rebel Alliance trying to break through the Imperial blockade, a fight broke out along the icy surface, all while scavengers raided for parts amongst the chaos. The Imperials eventually got pushed, and the governor got defeated by Lando Calrissian, who revealed the truth about Palpatine.

But other than this lost mobile game, Hoth has only been mentioned by name. In the Star Wars: Shadow Fall novel, there are rumors that the planet became a prison for Imperial soldiers. But Chancellor Mon Mothma dismissed these claims, saying she prefers justice to punishment. So, little is out there about Hoth's future, despite it being a fan-favorite location for many.
