The hotly anticipated Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation officially has a title.

The upcoming series' name was quietly announced courtesy of the Directors Guild of Canada website. The listing credits the production's directorial and accounting crew, as well as several managers and designers. All of these credits are attributed to working on a series titled Horizon 2074.

In May, PlayStation CEO and President Jim Ryan confirmed the company's collaboration with Netflix on a series based on the Horizon video game series. The news came alongside confirmation that Sony was also working on adaptations of God of War and Gran Turismo, the latter of which is slated for release on Aug. 11, 2023. Gran Turismo is based on a script by Jason Hall and will be helmed by District 9 director Neill Blomkamp.

2017's Horizon Zero Dawn, the first entry into the series, is an action RPG developed by Guerilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game follows Aloy, a young huntress lost in a futuristic world ravaged by mechanical monstrosities and overrun by treacherous jungles. Aloy's adventure sees players hunting down robotic dinosaurs and battling menacing foes, all while uncovering the dark secrets behind her world's existence and the origin of its unmistakable fauna.

Horizon Zero Dawn was released to critical and player acclaim and was lauded for its open-world setting, intriguing story, and awe-striking visuals. The game was followed just a few months later by the 2017 expansion The Frozen Wilds. Within five years of its initial release, Horizon Zero Dawn had sold over 20 million copies for the PlayStation 4, becoming one of the best-selling games the platform had ever seen. Horizon Forbidden West, the series' first full-fledged sequel, was released for both the PlayStation 4 and 5 in February 2022 and was also met with largely favorable reviews.

The next entry into the franchise, Horizon Call of the Mountain, was announced alongside the reveal of Sony's Consumer Electronics Show presentation in January. The game will be exclusive to the company's next-gen VR hardware, the PSVR2. During Sony's June State of Play announcement, Guerilla Games gave fans a look at what to expect from the title. The game is set to introduce a new protagonist, Ryas, a former Shadow Carja Warrior who is out for redemption following his release from prison.

Horizon 2074 does not currently have a release date.
