Horizon Zero Dawn is the latest video game to receive a comic book adaptation, with Titan Comics set to launch a title based on the PlayStation 4 action role-playing game this summer.

Titan Comics' Horizon Zero Dawn comes from the creative team of writer Anne Toole -- who was a member of the game's writing team -- and artist Ann Maulina. Moreover, the first issue will feature a cover by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau, in addition to variant covers by the likes of Loish and Peach Momoko.

Set after the events of the game, the comic features an original story centered around Talanah -- the friend of the game's heroine, Aloy -- as she hunts a mysterious new breed of killer machines following Aloy's disappearance. A one-shot that leads into the book's first issue is also slated to to be released as part of Free Comic Book Day (though the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the postponement of the annual event).

Horizon Zero Dawn is set in the far future, where a young woman named Aloy battles a race of mechanical beasts while trying to figure out the truth behind her past. The game was a critical and commercial success following its launch in 2017, winning multiple awards -- including the 2018 Writers Guild of America Award for Achievement in Video Game Writing and the 2018 BAFTA Games Award for Original Property.

"Fans are going to absolutely love the stories we have to tell of Talanah and Aloy as we expand the Horizon Zero Dawn universe in this new comic series," said editor Toll Mags.  "I'm really excited to see their reaction when this explosive new story arrives."

Written by Anne Toole and illustrated by Ann Maulina, Horizon Zero Dawn #1 goes on sale May 22 from Titan Comics.
