A virtual photographer posted incredible images of Aloy, the protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, that are so mind-bogglingly detailed they look real.Francesco Favero (@vpsharingpanda) shared the images on their Twitter account, depicting Aloy in the Tenakth Dragoon armor set, complete with an elaborate headdress and near full-body paint. What stands out about these screenshots is the incredible degree of detail. Every piece of straw, every bead, and almost every strand of hair is distinct, and the coloring and lighting are so masterfully done that it takes a careful eye to realize it isn't real. Viewers unfamiliar with Horizon Forbidden West's remarkable graphics can be forgiven for glancing at the screenshots and taking them for photographs of a detailed cosplay. Besides acting as the main protagonist of the Horizon games, Aloy is a Nora Brave, Seeker and machine hunter of incredible skill. She is the genetic clone of 21st-century roboticist and engineer Dr. Elisabet Sobeck and the genetic twin of Beta, a Far Zenith creation. Unlike her twin, GAIA, the governing artificial intelligence of Project Zero Dawn, created Aloy as a clone of its creator for the express purpose of repairing it and defeating the rogue AI HADES. Aloy succeeded, preventing HADES from reactivating the Faro Plague, which had wiped out life on Earth centuries earlier.

Both Horizon games are open-world action role-playing games developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation and PC. The first game, Horizon Zero Dawn, became one of PlayStation 4's defining titles and spawned a comic book series a few years after its release. Horizon Forbidden West released this February to critical acclaim, with particular enthusiasm for the graphics and world-building.

Recently, Horizon Forbidden West creative director Mathijs de Jonge explained how the game sets up a sequel. “Horizon is really about mystery; each of our stories has been about uncovering mysteries in both the old world and the present day when the game takes place,” explained Jonge. “Indeed, there is plenty of backstory that we can tap into to develop new storylines and create new mysteries from what we’ve already established."

When or if a third game in the series could release remains to be seen. For now, Horizon Zero Dawn is available on PlayStation 4 and PC, while Horizon Forbidden West is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
