After the premiere of a trailer during Sony's PlayStation 5 announcement event, Horizon: Forbidden West developer Guerrilla Games has released a series of breathtaking screenshots from the game's photo mode.

The screenshots, which were shared in a series of tweets, show off massive new locations to explore, grisly-looking new monsters for Aloy to fight (including those terrifying giant war elephants), and even new terrain environments such as an underwater area where Aloy uses what appears to be a futuristic breathing apparatus. All of these were seen briefly in the announcement trailer, stirring up buzz among fans.

The game looks like it will offer a subtle refinement of the vivid art style and expansive settings that made the original Horizon such a fan-favorite title. Zero Dawn was an instant hit when it arrived as a PlayStation exclusive in 2017, selling over 10 million copies for the console to date. It now has a planned PC launch sometime this summer.

Sony seems to be betting large on the sequel now known as Horizon: Forbidden West, as evidenced by the fact that they saved it for last during the games announcements at the PS5 event. The trailer from Sony's event shows Aloy exploring the world of Horizon beyond the far-future versions of Colorado and Utah from the original game.

Horizon: Forbidden West will be available as a PlayStation exclusive title with no officially announced release window as of this writing. The PlayStation 5 is expected to hit shelves later this year.
