A new manga by Horimiya artist Daisuke Hagiwara will be published this February.

The new stand-alone story was announced in the latest issue of Square Enix's Shonen Gangan manga magazine. The magazine was also the publication where the original Horimiya manga was serialized. The new manga will be a self-contained, stand-alone story. No other details about Hagiwara's latest work were announced. The new manga will appear in the magazine's next issue, which is scheduled to hit Japanese retailers on Feb. 12.

Hagiwara is still best known for their work on Horimiya, which was a full-length manga adaptation of creator Hiroki "Hero" Adachi's four-panel webcomic, which was originally self-published through Adachi's website from 2007 - 2011. Hagiwara's manga adaptation began in 2011 and finally concluded in March 2021, with Hagiwara penning an additional epilogue chapter in July, which took place after the protagonists' high school graduation. Hagiwara is also known for the Ne Ne Ne manga series, which was also serialized in Shonen Gangan, and for contributing to Studio Ponoc's debut movie, Mary and the Witch's Flower.

While many rom-com manga end when the two love interests finally admit their affection for one another and begin a relationship, Horimiya earned widespread critical acclaim for cementing the romance between its two protagonists, the popular and out-going Kyoko Hori and the introverted Izumi Miyamura, within its first few chapters and then spending the rest of its story exploring the dynamics of maintaining and developing that relationship.

Horimiya has been adapted to anime twice: the first was a series of direct to video releases which were produced by several different studios, and the second was a televised anime series produced by CloverWorks, the studio behind Wonder Egg Priority and several new shows from the Winter 2022 season, including the new original work Tokyo 24th Ward and the highly anticipated anime adaptation of My Dress-Up Darling. The series starred Koki Uchiyama, the voice of the villainous Shigaraki in My Hero Academia, as Miyamura and Darling in the Franxx's Haruka Tomatsu as Hori. CloverWorks' anime was criticized for its open-ended conclusion but was otherwise received positively by fans and professional critics alike. A live-action adaptation of the series also began airing on Japanese TV in February, 2021.

All 13 episodes of CloverWorks' Horimiya anime are available for streaming on Funimation. Hagiwara's manga adaptation is also available in North America from Yen Press, who at the time of writing, have localized 15 of the series' 16 total volumes into English.
