It was previously reported that Moranis was in talks to appear in Shrunk before being shot down by Disney. The film, which will star Josh Gad as the son of Moranis' Wayne Szalinski, was originally expected to head to Disney+ but has since been revealed to be hitting theaters.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids film was directed by Joe Johnson, who is also directing Shrunk. The 1989 film spawned several sequels and spinoffs, including Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show. However, following Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, Moranis has stuck primarily to voice and TV work.
