Christopher Dennis, known by many as "Hollywood Superman," has passed away.

"We want to take a moment to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Christopher Dennis better known as 'Hollywood Superman'. We've just received word of his passing," the Superman Museum in Metropolis, Illinois wrote in a Facebook post.

According to Dennis' own Facebook page, he began dressing as Superman on Hollywood Boulevard in 1991 after dying his hair black following years of being told he resembled a blonde Christopher Reeve, who famously played the Man of Steel in the 1978 film and its three sequels.

"I have posed for photos with thousands of tourists from all over the world," Dennis wrote. "When I play Superman, the smile that I see on people’s faces brings joy to my heart."

Dennis has appeared as Superman in The Los Angeles TimesThe New York TimesUSA Today and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live! among other publications, programs and films.

Outside of appearing as Superman, Dennis was also an actor, although he noted that he dreamed of one day playing Superman on the big screen.
