If Warner Bros. can build an animated franchise on LEGO, then why can't someone base a film on Pez, the nearly 90-year-old candy brand? We may be about to find out.

TheWrap reports that Envision Media Arts, the producers of such films as "Pathfinder" and "Celeste and Jesse Forever," has struck a deal with the Austrian company to develop an animated film around its candy dispensers.

Cameron Fay, who penned the upcoming comedy "Brother in Laws," will write the screenplay. What the premise might be is anybody's guess. While Pez's candy dispensers are certainly iconic (and in many cases, highly collectible), most of them feature the likenesses of popular characters from licensed properties, including "Star Wars," Disney, "The Avengers," "Peanuts" and "The Lord of the Rings."

“Pez candy is beloved by children and adults alike," Lee Nelson, founder and CEO of EMA, said in a statement. "With Cameron Fay we’ve created a world unique to Pez and a story that will touch the hearts of many."
