It's important to remember the ongoing controversial statements by the creator of the Harry Potter franchise. CBR supports the hard work of industry professionals on properties fans know and love and the wider world of Harry Potter that fans have adopted as their own. The Harry Potter universe has managed to expand its lore massively over the course of two-and-a-half decades. In a world of magic and wonder, there are more than enough beasts and spells to go around to create a world where characters can specialize in various talents and professions. This has never been more prevalent than in the game Hogwarts Legacy.

Set in the 1890s, the game followed the player as a fifth-year transfer to Hogwarts. There, they learn a host of new spells and face off against deadly and fascinating creatures as well as facing against Goblins and Dark Wizards. In these conflicts, players learn how to be skilled duelists and can withstand multiple enemies at a given time. However, while there are more than enough spells to go around, there are some that could have greatly improved Hogwarts Legacy's combat if implemented.

Serpensortia Could Offer a Powerful Ally

Harry Potter — Snake in Zoo

An offshoot of Transfiguration spells, Serpensortia is very specific in that it conjures a snake from the user's wand. This acts like a traditional snake, but users could likely manipulate it to do their bidding with a bit of coercion. In Hogwarts Legacy, an ally snake could be useful in combat or stealth similar to plants and potions. Players could have the snake take some damage to protect them, and it could do damage while the player is getting to safety, planning their next move, or taking on another foe. Considering many people are inherently afraid of snakes, Serpensortia could be used to distract, scare, or incapacitate enemies while players complete their objective.

Obscuro Would Blind the Competition

Harry Potter Spells — Obscuro

One of the biggest issues with Hogwarts Legacy's combat involves being attacked from multiple angles by enemies with little time to block or counter. However, aside from Stupefy, there are not many spells that disorient foes to make it easier to deal with crowds. Obscuro would have been a great addition, as its main property is to conjure a blindfold around the eyes of a target. Whether in stealth or combat, Obscuro could allow the player to disorient an enemy quickly and use a combo attack on them. Alternatively, players could buy themselves time to focus on another enemy while Obscuro wears off. As a result, Obscuro could be a spell to add to a combo string and be more effective than Stupefy.

Aguamenti Would Be Great for Crowd Control

Harry Potter — Dumbledore's Water Cocoon

Aguamenti is another advanced conjuration and transfiguration spell that allowed the caster to create clean drinking water from their wands. Though it was taught to sixth-years during Harry Potter's time, Hogwarts Legacy makes some changes to when spells are taught, and the player could learn it as part of a class or due to their aptitude for magic. In combat, conjuring water could have powerful benefits, as it could push back a wide collection of enemies similar to Incendio and perhaps amplify Glacius. It could even be useful in one-on-one combat by keeping back larger enemies like Trolls or dousing fires made by Dark Wizards or dragons. Though Aguamenti isn't a conventional combat spell, the game could have used it to encourage interesting strategies.

Incarcerous Could Be Used to Apprehend or Trap Enemies

Incarcerous is a potentially violent spell, but one that is only as dangerous as the wizard using it. For example, when Dolores Umbridge used it on the Centaurs, it nearly killed the creatures. However, it could also be used to bind while holding prisoners awaiting detainment. In the context of Hogwarts Legacy, the spell could have been used to bind foes in combat or stealth as a way to stop a group from attacking simultaneously, instead funneling the amount players have to fight at once. By binding a foe, they'd be incapacitated similar to Petrificus Totalus but in a way that opens themselves up to more attacks. Ultimately, it's a simple spell, but one that would come in handy in a bind.

Defodio Can Pierce Stone With Ease

One of the most violent spells that still has uses outside of combat is Defodio. The gouging spell is used to clear pathways in stone, as it pierces like a bullet and could have similar effects to that of an explosion. It was also the spell used to carve out the words on Dobby's gravestone following his death. Had it been used in Hogwarts Legacy, it could have had the power to pierce shields and do considerable damage to enemies, though likely had been most useful against larger ones. It could have also helped clear out large debris while in caves or tombs to find secret passageways. Ultimately, Defodio may not be the safest spell, but it could've been a great offensive tool with helpful functions outside of combat.
