Warner Bros. Games has revealed that Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling is not involved in the franchise's upcoming PlayStation 5 video game, Hogwarts Legacy.

The information comes from a question posed on the studio's Frequently Asked Questions page for Hogwarts Legacy. "What is J.K. Rowling’s involvement with the game? Is this a new story from J.K. Rowling?" the question read, to which the FAQ replied, "J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World. This is not a new story from J.K. Rowling."

A trailer for Hogwarts Legacy was unveiled during the Sony PlayStation 5 Showcase, which revealed the pricing and pre-order date for the next-generation console. Other games previewed include Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition and Fortnite.

Rowling has come under fire for her anti-trans comments, with fans of the Harry Potter franchise voicing their displeasure at her stance. The most recent controversy comes from Troubled Blood, the fifth novel in Rowling's series of crime novels starring detective Cormoran Strike, which stars a cross-dressing serial killer.

Developed by Avalanche with Portkey Games and Warner Bros. Games, Hogwarts Legacy goes on sale for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, the Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, and PC in 2021.
