Desperate times call for desperate measures -- namely, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw -- in the first trailer for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Clocking in at nearly three minutes, the first footage for the spinoff gives fans of the high-octane a good idea of what to expect, and it's a lot different from the usual Fast & Furious film. Hobbs & Shaw still has car chases and gravity-defying stunts, of course, but there's a sci-fi premise, introducing Idris Elba as Brixton, a cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist who's super-strong, bullet-proof and a threat to the world. That's where Hobbs and Shaw come in, obviously.

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America's Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down. But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

Directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2) from a script by longtime Fast & Furious narrative architect Chris Morgan, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby. The film arrives Aug. 2.
