Johnson revealed in the post that the first week of shooting on the film has finished, adding: “We’re havin’ a blast disrupting the norm to deliver something fresh, cool, fun and bad ass for the fans.”
The spinoff to the successful film series comes after a reported feud broke out between Johnson and co-star Vin Diesel. While both actors have publicly tried to deescalate the idea that they’ve been displeased with one another, it’s currently unknown if Johnson will return for the upcoming Fast & Furious 9. That film is slated to be released in the spring of 2020.
Hobbes & Shaw, directed by David Leitch and starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Stephanie Vogt and Vanessa Kirby, is currently scheduled to premiere sometime in 2019.
