One of the most successful franchises in cinematic history, the blockbuster Fast and the Furious is racing toward the finish line, with two final films in the series set for release in 2021 and 2022. However, even with the send in sight, the brand is expanding, with the animated series Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, and Hobbs & Shaw, screeching into theaters this weekend. It's probably safe to assume the film, which teams up fan favorites Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, isn't envisioned as a one-off affair, which leads us to the obvious question: Does Hobbs & Shaw have a post-credits scene, perhaps one setting up the inevitable sequel?Directed by David Leitch, of Deadpool fame, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw throws together the two sworn enemies to stop cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba), clear MI6 agent Hattie Shaw -- yes, Shaw's sister, played by Vanessa Kirby -- and just maybe save the world.RELATED: Hobbs & Shaw Is a Delightfully Over-the-Top BlastThe Fast and the Furious is no stranger to post-credits scenes; heck, the Universal Pictures franchise embraced such extras from the very start, in 2001, years before they were popularized by Marvel Studios. The series wouldn't deliver another stinger until 2013's Fast & Furious 6, but there is a history there. Therefore, it wouldn't come as a surprise if Hobbs & Shaw did have a post-credits scene, or two -- particularly to those franchise faithful who follow Johnson on Twitter.

Johnson's comment will provide a bigger hint than we will. However, we can say there are two stingers, both played for laughs. As one of the film's producers and stars, Johnson would know better than most whether one of those sequences points to the team for the sequel, or perhaps another spinoff.

Suffice it to say that fans of the Fast and the Furious, and this film's stars, will want to remain seated until the very end, or at least lurk at the theater door. The race to the parking lot can wait another couple of minutes.

Hobbs & Shaw is projected to open this weekend domestically with anywhere between $60 million and $70 million-plus, and at least $195 million worldwide. That's a far cry from 2015's Furious 7, which debuted in North America to a franchise-best $147 million, but it could still be enough for the spinoff to slip into the No. 5 spot.

Directed by David Leitch from a script by franchise veteran Chris Morgan, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby. The film opens Friday nationwide.
