Destiny has arrived in the first trailer for His Dark Materials Season 2.

The trailer, which clocks in at just under a minute and a half, opens in the deserted city of Cittàgazze. There, Lyra Silvertongue and Will Parry run into each other for the first time -- and discover neither of them are from that world.

Soon, the trailer turns into a search for Lyra that spans worlds. The Magisterium, the witches, Mrs. Coulter and more set out to find her and her precious cargo: the Alethiometer, which uses Dust to distinguish truth from lies. The Alethiometer guides Lyra and Will through the multiverse, where they encounter characters like Mary Malone and John Parry. Will also comes into the possession of the Subtle Knight and the power to cut new paths between dimensions.

According to the official Season 2 description,

In the second season of HIS DARK MATERIALS, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) has opened a bridge to a new world, and, distraught over the death of her best friend, Lyra (Dafne Keen) follows Asriel into the unknown. In a strange and mysterious abandoned city she meets Will (Amir Wilson), a boy from our world who is also running from a troubled past. Lyra and Will learn their destinies are tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew around them. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) searches for Lyra, determined to bring her home by any means necessary.

Airing on HBO this fall, His Dark Materials stars Dafne Keen as Lyra, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby and Andrew Scott as John Parry.
