The BBC and HBO today released the first full trailer for His Dark Materials Season 1 at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The trailer continues to expand on the world established in the teaser from May, bringing even more daemons and alternate history intrigue, as well as a better look at Iorek Byrnison the Armored Bear.
His Dark Materials is a joint production between the BBC and HBO. The series is an adaptation of Phillip Pullman's fantasy series by the same name, perhaps best known for its first book: The Golden Compass. The series sees protagonist Lyra attempt to unravel the mysteries of a substance called Dust, revealing a conspiracy that takes place at the edge of the world and runs on the lives of orphan children.
The fantasy world Lyra inhabits also consists of daemons, animals that are soulbound to humans and act as their companions and personifications of their inner turmoil. The first His Dark Materials teaser was rather controversial because of its lack of daemons. The following teaser, released in May, corrected this error by revealing a plethora of the creatures. This trailer, which expands on the May teaser by roughly a minute, continues that trend.

His Dark Materials is directed by Tom Hooper and stars Dafne Keen as Lyra, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby. It doesn't currently have a release date, but rumors suggest it will premiere sometime in 2019.
