A new trailer for HBO and the BBC's upcoming television adaptation of the His Dark Materials book series teases polar bear battles, other worlds and preparations for a great war.
The trailer opens on James McAvoy's Lord Asriel speaking about his discovery of other worlds. Most of the show's main cast is featured along with popular daemons from the book series, including Marisa Coulter's golden monkey and Lord Asriel's snow leopard. Lyra's daemon Pantalaimon also looked to make an appearance in the form of weasel.
The famed alethiometer, or Golden Compass as it is better known, makes an appearance in the trailer. Also called a "truth-teller" in the book series, the alethiometer is gifted to Lyra by The Master/Dr. Carne.
His Dark Materials will be presented by both BBC and HBO. Its first episode was directed by Tom Hopper and written by Jack Thorne. The series will premiere on Nov. 3 in the United Kingdom and Ireland and will premiere in the United States on Nov. 4.
His Dark Materials is based on the book series by Phillip Pullman and stars Dafne Keen as Lyra, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby.
