Highlander Goes To Twilight Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg

So there doesn’t necessarily have to be only one, it seems. Back in 2009, Summit Entertainment announced the coming of a Highlander featuring the Fast & Furious director-producer team of Justin Lin and Neal Moritz. The news was reported and then quickly went away as Summit jumped into marketing overdrive mode for the then-coming home video release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and the subsequent summer release of Eclipse.

With the vampires getting a rest before the first of a two-part telling of Stephenie Meyer’s final Twilight book arrives in November, attention is turning once again to the sci-fi reboot. Summit is in negotiations with Dexter writer/co-executive producer Melissa Rosenberg to deliver a script, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rosenberg has plenty of experience working with the studio, having written the adapted screenplays for all five Twilight films.

Highlander is an old franchise, and an awesome one. The first movie starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and the always-entertaining Clancy Brown. Lambert plays a Scottish swordsman who learns that he is actually a member of a race of near-immortals, all of whom grow in power whenever any of the others dies. Kill off everyone to make yourself the last of the race and you’re bestowed with Real Ultimate Power. Pretty great deal if you can handle all the killing.
