A photo posted by Hideo Kojima of himself and the Sony Interactive Entertainment music team has convinced fans that his company will soon make a Death Stranding 2 announcement.Kojima posted the photo to his official Twitter account, and many commenters interpreted it as a sign of an impending reveal about the Death Stranding sequel. This follows a teaser image that Kojima Productions recently presented at Tokyo Game Show 2022. During this event, scannable QR codes visitors received at the company's merchandise booth showcased a picture of a female silhouette covered with the words, "Who Am I?" The image did not feature a title, but it did show a new icon above the Kojima Productions logo that is seemingly unrelated to the company's previous work.RELATED: Death Stranding: Director's Cut Leak Confirms PC Release

While Kojima's Twitter post does not promote any upcoming Sony game titles, actor Norman Reedus, who stars in Death Stranding as Sam Porter Bridges, revealed in an interview with IGN Brazil that he had started work on the sequel, which he described as "part two" of the game's story. The actor also teased a Death Stranding 2 back in August 2021. However, this does not necessarily mean that a Death Stranding 2 announcement is imminent. The game could still be in its early development stage and, therefore, not ready for an official unveiling. Recent reports also claim that Google greenlit a Stadia-exclusive follow-up to Death Stranding that the company later killed due to fears that a single-player title would not sell.

Death Stranding is set on a post-apocalyptic version of Earth that is destroyed by a cataclysmic event in which ghostly beings known as "BTs" suddenly appeared and triggered a series of explosion-like "voidouts" across the globe, eradicating most of the planet's life. Now, the last dregs of humanity struggle to survive, avoiding the "BTs" that remain to prevent further voidouts. The game revolves around Sam Bridges, a goods transporter that one day receives a message from his estranged sister Amelie Strand, who has been kidnapped by terrorists. In her message, she begs him to complete a nationwide communication system called the 'Chiral Network' that is essential to humanity's continued survival. Sam reluctantly accepts this mission.

While a Death Stranding sequel remains unconfirmed, the game did get an expanded edition called Death Stranding Director's Cut, which launched for PS5 owners in 2021. This game edition features a higher frame rate, ultra-wide monitor support and a new mode called "photo mode." It also included cross-over content from Valve Corporation's Half-Life series and CD PROJEKT RED's action RPG Cyberpunk 2077, selections from the digital book, The Art of Death Stranding, and exclusive cosmetic items.

Death Stranding is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
