Sam Raimi wants another shot at Spider-Man. While talking to The Week, the director of the original trilogy of "Spider-Man" shared a number of quick thoughts about the state of the wall-crawler's big screen endeavors, the oft-maligned "Spider-Man 3" and Marvel's upcoming introduction of the web-slinger into their shared cinematic universe.

Overall, Raimi said that he's "not really on top of it" when it comes to Spider-Man's current film status. "I know they made two ['Amazing Spider-Man'] features, and obviously, I've seen those," added Raimi, referencing Sony's failed attempt at rebooting the franchise with Andrew Garfield under the mask and Marc Webb behind the camera.

But Raimi's also aware of how his final word on Spider-Man was received by fans. With its dance numbers, amnesia plot and trio of disparate villains, 2007's "Spider-Man 3" isn't remembered too fondly by fans -- and Raimi admits he didn't leave the character on a good note. "I messed up on the third one," admitted Raimi.

Now that Spider-Man is back with Marvel, thanks to a deal to share the character with Sony, Raimi is putting his desire to return to Peter Parker out in the universe. "I think they're so complete now, Marvel. They probably don't need me anymore," he said. "But if they needed me? I'd love to. It's great to be wanted."

Marvel's new "Spider-Man" will be directed by Jon Watts and star Tom Holland as Spider-Man. The character will debut in "Captain America: Civil War," which swings into theaters on May 6, 2016; "Spider-Man" opens on July 28, 2017.
