Ultimately, it appears there won't be a chance for Tim Kring to save the show that set out to save the world.

Despite reports through the summer that the writer and executive producer behind NBC's "Heroes" would broker some kind of deal with the network to "keep the show alive," an unnamed source with the network has told Entertainment Weekly no mini series or movie is on the way to wrap the canceled series' dangling plot threads. Kring had made a somewhat public campaign of getting the show one last go on NBC, even describing to reporters the general outline of his story pitch for such an event.

"Heroes," which followed the lives of ordinary people granted mysterious super powers, launched to much fanfare and ratings in 2005. But after four seasons, the show's relationship with viewers had soured, causing cancellation to strike in May. Since that time, Kring took to co-writing a new novel and pitching other shows without giving up the hope that he'd be able to complete the "Heroes" saga on his own terms.
