Hero Initiative Launches The Hero Library

Official Press Release

LOS ANGELES - The Hero Initiative, the charity that helps older comic creators in medical or financial need, has your access to the ultimate comics library.

The Hero Library is a collection of 52 great comic hardcovers and paperbacks, ALL of which feature original sketches in them. These 52 carefully chosen tomes will be auctioned off via eBay.com one per week, starting November 1. Each book will come with a certificate of authenticity featuring art by Terry and Rachel Dodson stating that it's part of this special collection. Books with art by Chris Bachalo (Death: The High Cost of Living), Joe Kubert (Sgt. Rock), Steve Epting (Captain America), Jae Lee (Inhumans), Frank Cho (Liberty Meadows), Joe Quesada (Daredevil), John Cassaday (Planetary) and many, many more are included.

The auctions will be administered by Scott Cates and Rose Toth at MothComix.com, one of the largest and most reputable comic art dealers. "Books such as these are a real specialty area for Rose and Scott at Moth Comix, and they were instrumental in setting up this program," said Hero Initiative President Jim McLauchlin. "We couldn't do this without their tremendous help."

"I cant imagine a better endeavor. We got into the industry to get great books in the hands of collectors that they couldn't get anywhere else. To think that this is going to such a worthy cause as well makes it all the more worthwhile," said Scott Cates.

The first four auctions will feature:

  • Tom Strong book 4 hardcover, with an original sketch by Jerry Ordway, with the auction starting November 1
  • X-Force: Famous, Mutant & Mortal hardcover, with an amazing sketch by Mike Allred, with the auction starting November 8.
  • Sandman: Dreams & Nocturnes paperback, with an original sketch by Sam Keith, with the auction starting November 15.
  • The Lobo's Greatest Hits slipcover three-book set with over 30 original sketches from the likes of Simon Bisley, Tom Raney, J.G. Jones, Marc Silvestri, and many more, with the auction starting November 22.
