“People will have seen him before the crossovers,” executive producer Greg Berlanti tells Entertainment Weekly, referring to the four-part "Invasion!" event that kicks off with the Nov. 28 episode of "Supergirl." “He appears in episodes 6 and 7.
That means viewers will see the god of motion in Tuesday's episode of "The Flash," titled "Shade," in which Keiynan Lonsdale's Wally begins having dreams about being Kid Flash. Whether Savitar's introduction is linked to those Flashpoint visions remains to be seen.
The appearance of Savitar has been teased since August, with executive producer Todd Helbing assuring that the character won’t be anything like Zoom or Reverse-Flash. Berlanti recently described him as The Flash's "biggest foe yet.” If the figure shown this week in a leaked set photo turns out to be Savitar, Berlanti's characterization may have been intended literally.
Debuting in 1995’s “The Flash” #108, Savitar is a Cold War-era pilot whose plane was struck by lightning, imbuing him with super-speed and a strong connection to the Speed Force. Naming himself after Savitr, the Hindu god of motion, he studied elements of the Speed Force unknown to other speedsters, and developed the ability to create a force field, regenerate and transfer speed to other objects and people. He even founded his own cult.
Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, "The Flash" stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin and Keiynan Lonsdale.
