Next week, the Archie Comics gang will return to television in a new CW teen mystery/drama series titled "Riverdale." The entire Archie ensemble will be featured, from Archie and Jughead to Betty and Veronica and more. Even a newer addition to the Archie mythos, Kevin Keller, will be included in the new series played by Casey Cott.
A new interview with Cott puts highlights Kevin's role on the series, with the actor pinpointing his character as "Riverdale's" voice of truth. "He's kind of one of the only characters that is constantly saying the truth," said Cott. "And most of the times he says things that everyone else is thinking too."
Cott also spoke about Kevin's friendship with Veronica, which has been a major part of the comics since Keller debuted in 2010. "Veronica's this gorgeous girl from New York who goes to the Met Ball and wears these clothing lines that he can't imagine," said Cott. The actor also revealed how Kevin will deal with the show's central murder mystery. "I think he kind of enjoys drama, like, why don't I want to see that unfoil and how Cheryl responds to that and, you know, how Josie and the Pussycats respond to that. When you throw in the fact that there was a murder, all those relationships and dramatic instances are elevated."
You can check out Cott's interview, which also features clips from "Riverdale," below.
Looking past the series premiere, the CW has also released a synopsis for "Riverdale's" second episode. The episode, titled "A Touch of Evil," will reveal new details about the death at the center of the show.
As new details of Jason’s death begin to emerge, Archie (KJ Apa) pleads with Miss Grundy (guest star Sarah Habel) to come forward with what they heard at Sweetwater River. Betty (Lili Reinhart) makes an effort to mend her friendship with Archie but takes a different stance with Veronica (Camila Mendes), who is trying to make up for her actions. With rumors around her brother’s death running rampant, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) deals with the pressure in true Queen Bee fashion, while tensions boil over when Jughead (Cole Sprouse) stumbles upon a secret Archie was hoping to keep hidden. Finally, plans for the annual fall pep rally move forward with a performance by Josie (Ashleigh Murray) and the Pussycats and a special appearance by Mayor McCoy (guest star Robin Givens.)
Starring K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, “Riverdale” will debut Thursday, January 26 at 9 pm on The CW. The series also stars Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle and more. “Breakfast Club” alum Molly Ringwald will also recur as Archie’s mother Mary.
