Hercules Adds Rufus Sewell

Rufus Sewell has joined Dwayne Johnson in director Brett Ratner’s Hercules, the MGM-Paramount Pictures adaptation of Radical Publishing’s 2008 comic Hercules: The Thracian Wars. According to Deadline, he’ll play Autolycus, who in Greek mythology taught the demigod wrestling.

Set in the real world stripped of its mythological elements, the original comic follows the Greek hero and his six battle-worn companions as they’re called upon by the Thracian king to train his army. But in Thrace Hercules and his band of lost souls discover how far they’ve fallen and what it will take to travel the path to redemption.

Norwegian actor Aksel Hennie (Headhunters) was cast last month as Hercules’ ally Tydeus.

The film, which was written by Ryan Condal and rewritten by Evan Spiliotopoulos, opens July 25, 2014.
