Henry Cavill has posted an update on the leg injury he suffered while filming The Witcher Season 2.

"We are in lockdown here the UK so I'm using my once a day outdoor exercise to go for my first jog since my hamstring injury! (More on that another time)," Cavill wrote in a post on his Instagram account. He went on to add, "It wasn't fast, and it certainly was far, but it has been a major step in my recovery, and my first step to getting back into the groove after a Christmas that may have involved more than a few cups of mulled wine, and an exceptionally fat Turkey."

Henry Cavill Witcher Injury Update

In December, Cavill injured his hamstring during an accident on the set of the popular Netflix fantasy series. Reportedly, the incident took place while the actor was wearing a safety harness and hovering more than 20 feet above the ground on an assault course at Arborfield Studios, just west of London in the United Kingdom. Filming continued on The Witcher Season 2 for the remainder of December while Cavill took a leave of absence in order to recover, before the show went on a production hiatus over the winter holidays.

Filming on The Witcher Season 2 began in February last year, but was forced to stop in mid-March due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju, who is playing the character Nivellen in the upcoming season, revealed he had contracted the virus shortly after, but has since recovered.

Shooting on Season 2 finally resumed in mid-August and continued until November 7, at which point it halted again after four members of the production tested positive for COVID-19. However, less than two weeks later, The Witcher was cleared to restart filming for the second time.

Because of the ongoing pandemic, the shooting scheduled for The Witcher Season 2 has been extended from its original length of six months to eight. As a result of the rescheduling, actor Rue Rasmussen was forced to drop out of the role as the character Eskel, which has since been recast with the actor Basil Eidenbenz. It's unclear if the schedule for Season 2 will need to be extended once more due to the current lockdowns in the U.K.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
