While his first three outings as the Man of Steel in the DC Extended Universe were divisive, many fans have embraced actor Henry Cavill as the current Superman of the silver screen. But to Cavill, playing the Last Son of Krypton comes with a big responsibility—that he happily accepts.

While speaking to Patrick Stewart for the Actors on Actors issue of Variety, Cavill explained that he hoped to keep playing Superman, while also discussing the aforesaid responsibility of the role.

"I’ve always been a fan of Superman," Cavill stated. "With a character like that, you carry the mantle with you off set. And it becomes part of your public representation. When you meet children, children don’t necessarily see me as Henry Cavill, but they might see Superman, and there’s a responsibility which comes with that. Because it’s such a wonderful character, it’s actually a responsibility I’m happy to have, and I hope that I get to play more of Superman in years to come."

Last month, it was reported that Cavill was in talks to play Superman once again, albeit with the character used in a manner similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's versions of the Hulk and Nick Fury. In addition, while there has been no official word as to whether or not he and his costars will return to film any new scenes, fans may see more of Cavill's Superman in Zack Snyder's Justice League when it releases on HBO Max next year.

Zack Snyder's Justice League will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.
