Perhaps Henry Cavill isn't entirely done with Superman and the DC Extended Universe after all.

Ahead of this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Deadline reported potential "buzz" about Cavill making a "surprise appearance to talk up more Superman" at the convention's Saturday Hall H panel. Should this rumor be true, Cavill would join DC's major previews for the upcoming films Black Adam and Shazam: Fury of the Gods, headed by their respective leads, Dwayne Johnson and Zachary Levi. Whether this means the DCEU is working on another Superman-themed project remains unclear.

In addition to Levi and Johnson, DC's Hall H panel will feature appearances from the cast and crew of Black Adam and the Shazam! sequel. Johnson recently announced who will join him at Comic-Con on Instagram, listing off director Jaume Collet-Serra and Justice Society co-stars Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell and Aldis Hodge.

Cavill joined the DCEU as Clark Kent/Superman in 2013's Man of Steel, which polarized critics and fans for its darker, more somber take on a present-day Superman. He would go on to play the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, as well as do reshoots for director Zack Snyder's "Snyder Cut" version of the latter, which received a more positive reception compared to the initial cut finished by Joss Whedon. However, Justice League's initial failure led to Warner Bros considering replacements for Cavill and Ben Affleck as Superman shortly after, though Cavill has been open about his desire to play Superman again.

Beyond Cavill's physical portrayals, Superman has made cameos in other notable DCEU films and shows, albeit with the hero's face completely obscured. Such instances include Shazam!'s final scene and the ending of HBO Max's Peacemaker Season 1, where Superman and the Justice League arrive too late to help Peacemaker stop the alien Butterfly invasion. Peacemaker, however, saw Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller briefly reprise their DCEU roles in that scene as Aquaman and the Flash. A test screening for Black Adam also featured a Shazam!-like "headless/faceless/shadowy cameo," but the identity of this character has not yet been revealed.

Cavill's most recent non-DC roles include Geralt of Rivia on Netflix's The Witcher series and Sherlock Holmes in the Netflix film Enola Holmes. He will return as both characters for The Witcher's third season and Enola Holmes 2, which wrapped up filming in January. Alongside Cavill and the main cast, The Witcher added several new faces to its Season 3 roster, including Shang-Chi's Meng'er Zhang and Arrowverse star Robbie Amell.
