Actor Henry Cavill revealed that he may have more creative control over his upcoming projects.
Appearing on the Deadline video series The Film That Lit My Fuse, Cavill was asked what the biggest challenge he faced was when trying to turn put his own spin on the projects that influenced him as a performer. The Man of Steel star shared that he has not had the opportunity to exercise that degree of creative control over his work yet, but he hinted that the next stage of his career will give him a lot more freedom, from the start of his projects to their final versions.
"I think I'm only starting to do that now," he said. "I think that will happen in my next chapter, the chapter which we're opening at this stage. Up until now I've had the wonderful opportunity to work with the likes of Matthew Vaughn and Guy Ritchie and [Christopher] Macquarie and others. But I think this next chapter is when I finally get to just speak in my own language and to be there from the beginning of the creative process, from the birth of every idea into the realization, into its culmination on the screen ... Watch this space is the answer."
Cavill's Support System
Cavill also divulged that his family and his partner, Natalie Viscuso, have given him the confidence to pursue acting and feel that he belonged in the industry. He noted how important it is to have support from a trusted network to give you sincere and truthful feedback. "I think as ridiculous as it may sound, or as corny as it may sound, I think it's my mother's approval and my father's approval," the actor said. "It's turning to your family, to those who know you best and to who you know best as well, so you can tell when they're lying. They say things like, 'You did a really good job there', and it's sincere. It's not just a part on the back ... I think lately my partner, Natalie, she has had that ... She has been an incredible support system for me and really opened my eyes to a lot of things."
While he made a surprise appearance as Superman in the recent DC Universe film Black Adam, Cavill has also made headlines recently over his announcement that he would no longer be playing main character Geralt of Rivia from the Netflix series, The Witcher. Liam Hemsworth of The Hunger Games is reported to be taking over the role for the show's fourth season. While it has not been confirmed, there are reports Cavill's departure was the result of major creative differences.
Black Adam is currently playing in theaters.
