WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Helstrom, now streaming on Hulu.

While Caretaker appeared in the Helstrom Hulu series, he's a much different version of the classic Marvel Comics character most often associated with to the Ghost Rider.

Caretaker from Ghost Rider

On Helstrom, Henry/Caretaker was a member of The Blood, a group of mercenaries working in secret for the Catholic Church. The group had two goals. The first was hunt down demons, while the second was put possessed people into comas to keep demons from escaping upon death or exorcism, knowing they'd just return and take over another body. The Blood also have no problem killing, and they planned to murder Daimon and Ana Helstrom as children, knowing the power their demonic father passed on to them. However, Caretaker saved them by agreeing to watch Ana and help keep the kids apart.

In the comics, the original Caretaker was nothing like the version in Helstrom. While the version on the TV show was fighting a battle he was getting too old for, the comics version of Caretaker actually pre-dated Atlantis. Although he was part of The Blood, the group in the comics is actually a supernatural race with a slowed aging process and an immunity to all conventional diseases. As part of The Blood, Caretaker protected the Medallion of Power, a powerful artifact containing the demon Zarathos. The Medallion of Power was then broken into several pieces that were given to the families of Michael Badilino, Johnny Blaze and Barbara Ketch. Caretaker was tasked with protecting both the Badilino and Blaze/Ketch families. In Helstrom, Caretaker only had to protect Ana Helstrom, while Daimon had a different person guiding his life in Portland.

Caretaker Sara understand Ghost Rider

In terms of comics accuracy, Helstrom did seem to be leading to a moment from the comics where Caretaker died, and his granddaughter Sara gave up her life as a nun to replace him. In Helstrom, Gabriella was a nun who was working with Daimon, and when her faith was shattered, she joined The Blood. However, she is in no way a replacement for Caretaker, where his warmth and protective nature were replaced by a vindictive nature of the "us vs. them" mentality that exists in the heart of most members of The Blood.

Overall, Helstrom isn't particularly accurate to the Marvel Comics, and its depiction of Caretaker is no different, with the character being significantly different from the source material.

Marvel's Helstrom stars Tom Austen as Daimon Helstrom, Sydney Lemmon as Ana Helstrom, Elizabeth Marvel as Victoria Helstrom, Ariana Guerra as Gabriella Rossetti, Robert Wisdom as Caretaker, June Carryl as Louise Hastings and Alain Uy as Chris Yen. The series is now available in its entirety on Hulu.
