If one should believe anybody regarding news about Hellboy, his creator Mike Mignola is a solid bet. The famous writer/artist revealed on Twitter, before immediately deleting the post, that a new trailer for the upcoming Hellboy film will be released sometime next week.
Mignola's post assured fans that this trailer "is SO much better" than the first one that was released in December, which received mixed reviews from fans and critics. While some praised the trailer and its new direction, others noted the song, Billy Idol's "Mony, Mony," didn't fit the movie's darker approach and compared David Harbour's performance to Ron Perlman's beloved portrayal of the character in Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy films.
Mignola, who was a consultant on the del Toro films and is an executive producer for the reboot, has explained the differences between Harbour and Perlman's portrayals. In his opinion, both takes are essentially Hellboy, but versions tipped into two different directions. With the del Toro films detailing Hellboy's origin in the Seed of Destruction storyline, Mignola feels the reboot give's Big Red's story a fresh starting point, with more than enough details from the Hellboy source material to continue that direction should the film be successful.
Arriving on April 12, director Neil Marshall’s Hellboy stars David Harbour as Hellboy, Ian McShane as Trevor Bruttenholm, Milla Jovovich as Nimue, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida and Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio.
