Following its release earlier this week, initial reaction to the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Hellboy reboot was mixed. Now, a fan has edited the trailer to make it grittier and darker than the official version.

The fan edit, which comes from user Tim Gonzales on YouTube, moves around different scenes from the trailer and removes Billy Idol's 1981 cover of "Mony Mony," replacing it instead with a much darker soundtrack. The effect is makes the trailer feel a lot more grim than the ones fan saw earlier this week, as much of the official trailer's humor has been removed.

"I figured the reboot was going to be an 'edgier' take," Gonzales wrote in the video's description. "Darker. Gritty. Grounded. Yeah those buzzwords. Whatever. I was into it. But from the new trailer it looks like more of the same? Maybe my hype was misguided/misinformed. The action and creature design look spot-on though."

"That said, I was motivated to cut the trailer footage into a 'darker' teaser that's less upbeat and more eerie to better reflect my initial excitement when the reboot was first announced," the uploader continued. "Hellboy fans, hope you enjoy this!"

The reboot will be R-rated and is said to draw inspiration from the comic book miniseries Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt and The Storm and the Fury.
