The upcoming Hellboy reboot, tentatively titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, just got some major star power. According to Deadline, Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich is "in final talks" to play the Blood Queen, the film's eponymous villain. Jovovich will join Stanger Things' David Harbour, who is slated to play Hellboy himself, as well as Ian McShane, who will appear as Hellboy's adoptive father Professor Broom. Not much is known about her role at this time.
Jovovich is an industry veteran, best known for her roles in the cult classic film The Fifth Element and the Resident Evil franchise. The Ukrainian-born actress has also appeared in Ultraviolet, The Three Musketeers, Zoolander and more.
In May, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola announced an R-rated reboot of the franchise. Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson is on board to produce, and Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Mignola have penned the script for the film. Recently, Mignola revealed that the reboot, one which will be R-rated and take the franchise in a darker direction, was actually first conceived to follow the two movies that director Guillermo del Toro did. However, when del Toro didn’t want to be part of the new story, Ron Perlman took himself off the table which paved the way for Neil Marshall to take the director’s chair and for Harbour to step in as the lead.
Directed by The Descent‘s Neil Marshall, the upcoming Hellboy reboot is written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola and stars David Harbour in the title role. The film does not yet have a release date.
