At New York Comic Con, David Harbour, who is set to star as the titular character in the upcoming Hellboy reboot, appeared to disclose a few more details about what fans can expect from the new movie.

Notably, the actor confirmed that while the film does feature elements prominent in other superhero and comic book movies, this new interpretation will be, first and foremost, a horror film.

"He’s a really great director, for horror stuff especially," said Harbour, referring to Hellboy director Neil Marshall. "He knows how to do scares and monsters, especially… At its essence, it is a monster movie! It’s a monster horror movie. It’s not a superhero movie… even though it has some of those elements."

Harbour compared the film to the classic monster movies of old, while also speaking to the visual effects that were used. "There are CGI elements… but there’s also a lot of practical stuff," he said. "Like crazy practical makeup. It is a monster movie like right out of Frankenstein updated to 2018!"

On that same note, Harbour revealed that, save for the flaming sword, the film's poster was completely practical. "The monster you see there existed in front of us… and, according to Sasha Lane, I’m more attractive in it."

Debuting in theaters on April 12, 2019, Neil Marshall’s Hellboy stars David Harbour as Hellboy, Ian McShane as Trevor Bruttenholm, Milla Jovovich as Nimue, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida and Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio.
