Mike Mignola introduced the now-iconic comic book character known as Hellboy in 1994. To celebrate the big, red paranormal investigator's 25th anniversary, Dark Horse Comics has declared March 23, 2019, as the inaugural Hellboy Day.

Fittingly, it was in March 1994 when the first issue of the original Hellboy: Seed of Destruction miniseries was released. Dark Horse will mark the milestone by publishing a special edition of Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #1, with a new cover by Mignola and Dave Stewart.

The comic will be given away at participating comic book shops. Additionally, select stores across the United States will host Hellboy Day events.

"When I created Hellboy way back when I never imagined he would be around long enough to celebrate a 25th anniversary," Mignola said in a statement. "I am grateful to the writers, artists, colorists and letterers who've joined be in telling Hellboy stories for all these years. And, of course, so grateful to the fans. This thing could not exist without their support and it's a pleasure every time I get to go out and meet them."

The event is set to take place a mere few weeks before the new Hellboy film arrives in theaters.
