As well as more comics and a rebooted movie series, Hellboy fans can now look forward to a board game based on Mike Mignola's supernatural world.

Mignola himself in on board to bring a new era of Anung Un Rama to theaters with Lionsgate's R-rated movie. However, a Kickstarter-funded board game based on the comic book source material could arrive at about the same time.

Hellboy: The Board Game rocketed past the nearly $140,000 funding goal set by Mantic Games and Dark Horse within the first 24 hours of the campaign. It's received more than $1 million in pledges, with 28 days to go.

Hoping to capture the Gothic themes of Mignola's popular comics, the game tasks players with becoming members of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Whether playing as Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman or Johann Kraus, gamers are expected to "explore Gothic locations, hunt down clues, discover artifacts, fight horrific creatures and face off against terrifying bosses."
