Heels star Stephen Amell says he spoke to Phil Brooks/CM Punk about a possible in-ring return with All Elite Wrestling.

Punk appears alongside Amell on the upcoming Starz wrestling drama, and while speaking with Busted Open Radio, the Arrow alum was asked if he'd spoken with Punk about his potential return to the squared circle. "I don't want to betray stuff that I've talked about with Phil," Amell said. "I actually texted him when all this stuff broke like, 'You coming back?' He sent me back a photo of a cat shrugging. As a general rule, anything in the world of pro wrestling that is going to piss Vince McMahon off and get his competitive juices flowing, is probably good for business. The one thing I know for sure is that Phil can still go. He's in great shape. I would love to see those guys in AEW or WWE. Phil vs. Triple H, you name it, it'd be great."

Punk began wrestling in the late 1990s, enjoying a lengthy stint on the independent circuit. After achieving success with Ring of Honor and Total Nonstop Action, he joined WWE in 2005 as part of the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental territory and quickly found himself on the main roster.

In the years that followed, Punk would remain in the upper card, even breaking the record for the sixth-longest WWE Championship reign at 434 days. However, in 2014, he famously departed the company on bad terms. After walking out, Punk was suspended for two months and wound up receiving his termination papers on the day of his wedding to AJ Lee (April Mendez). As for the circumstances behind his departure, Punk cited his personal health, including a MRSA infection (he would later deny receiving a diagnosis), broken bones and concussions.

Following a short tenure in UFC, Punk returned to wrestling in an analyst role for WWE Backstage, but as far as an in-ring return, it's been heavily reported that he's heading to AEW.
