“Interceptor,” Heavy Metal’s post-apocalyptic vampire comic series by Donny Cates and Dylan Burnett, has landed a film adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Krelitz, David Boxenbaum and Heavy Metal president Brian Witten will produce.
The “Interceptor” comic series follows vampires living in a nuclear wasteland as they attempt to go to space. “It’s like this: ‘Buffy’ in a mech suit lands in a Vampire ‘Mad Max’ hell hole and unleashes a maelstrom of UV ballistics and neon and blood soaked destruction,” Cates explained.
“Heavy Metal has a strong belief about the project and Donny Cates as writer and Dylan Burnett as artist. What they’ve created is something you haven’t seen before,” Krelitz said. “We were already thinking about the film & TV possibilities when we started being approached by a few writers and directors about the project. We conveyed this to Donny and he asked us to come on board as producers.”
The “Interceptor”comic isn’t due to hit shelves until November 18, which makes it one of several comic series — like Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s “Descender” and Mark Millar and Rafael Albuquerque’s “Huck” — to get a film deal shortly before release.
