Heavy Metal announced a partnership with Range Media Partners to co-produce films and TV shows drawn from the magazine's stories and concepts.

The film and television division will be led by producer Tommy Coriale, formerly of DIGA Studios, as president and head of studio. Matthew Medney will continue in his role as Heavy Metal's CEO, and David Erwin as its Chief Creative Overlord and publisher.

"I am still pinching myself that Heavy Metal is the brand I get to help shepherd off the page," Coriale said. "Joining forces with Matt and David is a dream come true, and now with Range by our side as both partners and facilitators we are poised to make history. Our message to our fans and to Hollywood is one in the same - buckle the f--k up, Heavy Metal has arrived."

Established in September 2020, Range Media Partners is a management and brand development company. Heavy Metal began in 1977 as the licensed U.S. version of the French science-fiction and fantasy anthology magazine Métal hurlant. It carried works from H.R. Giger, Moebius, Esteban Maroto and Richard Corben, and a serialized adaptation of the film Alien by Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson that was collected into Alien: The Illustrated Story. Heavy Metal recently returned to monthly publication after three decades as a bimonthly.

Heavy Metal's previous forays into film were the animated movie of the same name in 1981, that adapted stories from the magazine and added some originals, and a sequel, Heavy Metal 2000.
