Heath Ledger Nominated for Golden Globe

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has released its list of nominations for the 2008 Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best achievements in television and film. As expected by many commentators, deceased actor Heath Ledger has earned a posthumous nomination for Best Supporting Actor in his role as The Joker in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight," the year's most popular and possibly best reviewed film.

While "Iron Man" star Robert Downey, Jr. was not recognized for his performance as Tony Stark, the actor is competing against Ledger in the same category, having been nominated for his role in the Ben Stiller-directed comedy, "Tropic Thunder."

The 66th annual Golden Globe Awards will take place January 11, 2009.
