He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is one of the pioneer franchises that influenced popular culture by creating a television show to promote a toyline. In fact, the cultural impact of the franchise still lingers today with memes referencing the main protagonist and villain still floating around on the Internet and through the She-Ra reboot that ended earlier this year.

In many of He-Man's incarnations, he is portrayed as having the secret identity of Prince Adam. Despite sharing essentially the same outward appearance apart from a drastic wardrobe change, very few characters knew of Adam's secret, and those who knew he trusted in his fight against Skeletor and his evil forces. Here is every character in Prince Adam's inner circle.

10 Mara Of Primus

Mara is from the 1990 cartoon The New Adventures of He-Man. She's Master Sebrian's assistant who becomes ambassador and queen later in the series. After He-Man arrived on Primus, she suspected Prince Adam, who pretended to be Sebrian's nephew, as being the same person. She develops a crush on him and is one of the few characters that notices that the two alter egos are never seen together.

Mara was rebooted for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018) where she became the She-Ra before Princess Adora.

9 Master Sebrian

Sebrian is the wise spiritual leader of the planet Primus who became He-Man's main confidant during The New Adventures of He-Man where he adopted Prince Adam to protect his secret identity.

Sebrian is a powerful magician who has vast, expert knowledge on many subjects, which proved useful in helping He-Man combat the forces of evil threatening his planet. Sebrian was never based on an action figure, unlike most of the characters in the series, and a toy was never made of him despite his prominence in the cartoon.

8 Zodac/Zodak

Zodac, or Zodak, is one of the few characters who knows Prince Adam's secret identity as He-Man. The correct spelling of his name was inconsistent from the toyline and 1983 series but was settled in the 2002 reboot as Zodak.

He is a powerful and enigmatic "cosmic enforcer" who was billed as being neutral in his allegiance. That's why he is often confused as either a villain or a hero by even the most hardcore fans.

7 Queen Marlena

Born Marlena Glenn on Earth, she was an accomplished astronaut from NASA who became stranded on Etheria after her ship was thrown off course. She eventually fell in love and married King Radnor and the couple had Adam and his twin sister Adora who became He-Man and She-Ra.

Although Marlena has never explicitly said she knew of his son's secret identity, it's hinted at in the series that she either strongly suspected or was fully aware and decided to keep the secret for her son's sake.

6 Cringer/Battle Cat

Prince Adam and pet Cringer

Cringer is Adam's loyal friend and pet giant cat who transforms into Battle Cat when He-Man infuses the Power of Grayskull on him. When he becomes Battle Cat, he is a fierce and powerful companion to He-Man who does not shy away from fighting the forces of evil, and in most incarnations, gains armor and the ability to speak.

This is drastically different from the true nature of Cringer who is lazy and cowardly and would sooner hide or run away than face danger head-on.

5 Teela

Teela is Captain of the Royal Guard of Eteros and the primary combat trainer, protector, and childhood friend of Prince Adam. Despite sharing the battlefield with He-Man on numerous occasions, she is unaware that he is actually Adam. This makes her see him as a lazy unfocused coward who always disappears in dangerous situations. Conversely, she admires and respects He-Man who, to her surprise, has shown great teamwork with her during battle.

Teela is also the biological daughter of the Sorceress of Grayskull and adopted child of Man-At-Arms.

4 She-Ra/Adora

Prince Adam's twin sister and the main protagonist of the 1985 cartoon She-Ra: Princess of Power and the subsequent 2018 reboot, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

Adora was introduced in the movie The Secret of the Sword initially as a villain leading the Evil Horde but then she discovers she was kidnapped as a child by Commander Hordak. After she traces her lineage to Adam's family, she eventually becomes She-Ra when granted the Sword of Protection from Castle Grayskull and has many heroic adventures with her brother.

3 Orko

Orko and He-Man in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

Orko is the main comic relief character in the Masters of the Universe franchise who knows Prince Adam's secret identity. He becomes one of Adam's closest and loyal friends, and though he's an accomplished wizard in his extradimensional homeworld of Trolla, he is often portrayed as clumsy and incompetent due to the laws of nature differing in Etheria.

Despite being unable to help in battle most times, He-Man trusts Orko and has given him the Sword of Power for safekeeping from time to time.

2 Man-At-Arms/Duncan

Duncan is the royal advisor and leader of the Eternian Royal Guard. He is Teela's foster father who agreed to adopt her at the request of the Sorceress of Grayskull to keep her safe. He is a skilled soldier and genius inventor who often assists and mentors Prince Adam in his times of need.

He is also aware that Adam is secretly He-Man and acts as a secondary father figure whenever King Radnor is less than an understanding parent because he perceives Adam as having cowardly tendencies.

1 The Sorceress of Grayskull/Teela-Na

Teela-Na is the powerful Sorceress of Grayskull who grants both Prince Adam and Princess Adora their magical swords that transform them into He-Man and She-Ra, respectively. She is also the biological mother of Teela, who she leaves as an infant under the care of Man-At-Arms.

She is the most trusted advisor and mentor of Adam and Adora as she often guides them in using their powers against evil. Her character is almost saint-like throughout the series and acts as a guardian and pillar of good for Eteria.
