With only two episodes left in its first season, Watchmen has continued to boast strong viewership numbers, driven largely by positive word-of-mouth from viewers.

HBO revealed that the first seven episodes of its Watchmen adaptation have averaged 7.1 million viewers across both the premium cable broadcast channel and its digital platforms. This makes comic book continuation the most successful new series for the network since Big Little Lies and the biggest series debuting on any premium cable network in 2019.

The series' seventh and most recent episode, premiering this past Sunday, was watched by 779,000 viewers in the initial cable broadcast -- only a marginal decrease from the 799,000 viewership for the series premiere this past October. This number grew to 1.2 million by Monday through repeat airings and digital streaming and is expected to greatly increase as the week continues.

Watchmen takes place in the world of the original Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons comic book series. Over 30 years after the events of the initial story, the world is descending into lawlessness, resulting in the rise of new superheroes. A Season 2 renewal has not been announced by HBO at this time as the series moves to its Season 1 finale on December 15.
